Jacques Barrère
A dealer in Far Eastern art objects, Jacques Barrère creates in 1969 the Gallery Jacques Barrère. It will become Jacques Barrère S.A. in 1990.
His position as appraiser is recognized when he becomes a member of the Board of Syndicat National des Antiquaires and his nomination in 1981 as magistrate's assistant with the Commission de Conciliation et d'Expertise Douanière. In 1991 he is elected to the presidency of Compagnie Nationale des Experts and named Appraiser to the Appeals Court.
- 2000
- Participates in the third Asian Fall in Paris. Publishes a book on Chinese Buddhist Sculpture on the occasion of the 20th Biennale des Antiquaires. Exhibits wooden sculptures from the Chu kingdom. Pottery exhibition : 2000 years of Chinese pottery. Participates in the second Pavillon des Antiquaires.
- 1999
- Participates in the organization of the second Asian Fall in Paris, publishes on the occasion of the exhibit "The Paths of Sculpture" a catalogue on Chinese Buddhist sculpture.
- 1998
- Participates in the organization of the first Asian Fall in Paris and publishes on the occasion of his exhibit "Woods of Immortality" a catalogue on Chu statuary.
- 1997
- Participates in the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris. Also in the Asian Art Fair in New York.
- 1995
- With the help of Musées Nationaux, works on a totally new exhibit on "Wooden Objects from the Chu Kingdom" (China – 500-300 BC). Participates in the first TEFAF Fair in Basel, and in the Asian Art Fair in New York.
- 1993
- Participates in the first Antiques Exhibit "Treasures" in Singapore. The Gallery Jacques Barrère organizes the first in situ restitution of a work of art in China: the bronze windows of Dong Ting in the Summer Palace in Peking.
- 1982-1992
- Participates in the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris in 1982, 1984, 1986, 1990, 1992, 1996 and 2000, and three times in the Salon de Mars.
- 1980-1994
- Regular thematic exhibits in Chinese Art and Archaeology, catalogues.
- 1973-1978
- Active in the movement for the restitution to Japan of works of art.
