The Gallery
The Gallery Jacques Barrère is located in the heart of the Left Bank in Paris, in the 6th arrondissement, between Pont des Arts and Odeon Theater. For many years exhibits have borne witness to its dedication to encourage knowledge of Far Eastern art and its conservation. Jacques Barrère runs it since it was created in 1969. He is an appraiser with the Paris Appeals Court.
Each year, one or two antiques exhibits take place on its premises. The Gallery Jacques Barrère participates in important international fairs, such as the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris, Basle or Singapore Fair, or the Asian Fair in New York. It ensures promotion of contemporary Asian art by organizing one or two shows a year.
Organizing for the government of the People's Republic of China the repatriation in situ of the Dong Ting bronze windows, in the famous pavilion of the Summer Palace, ensuring the safekeeping thanks to an in depth and appropriate treatment of a collection of wooden objects from the Chu kingdom, which would have been irretrievably lost without this intervention, are just two examples of its widely various initiatives.
Many of the Gallery's collection pieces are now in museums or foundations : Musée Guimet (Paris), Musée Cernuschi (Paris), Vienna Museum (Austria), Royal Ontario Museum (Canada), Singapore Museum, San Antonio Museum (USA), Chang Foundation (Taïpei), Müller Foundation (Germany), Miho Museum (Japan), Musée de Nice (France), Agnelli Foundation.
